Effects of marijuana use are equally serious as those of alcohol and tobacco
Summary
It is clear that drugs are substances that are introduced in the body in order to achieve certain effects. In the ancient times, these drugs were not highly considered as threats because people commonly focused on their health and religious benefits. Commonly, these drugs were considered as sacred and highly beneficial for offerings and other rituals. Therefore, they were not heavily consumed, thus people did not experience any detrimental health risks. However, over the years, people have shifted into using these drugs solely for recreational purposes. Therefore, people no longer have control over the consumption of marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol. The abuse of these drugs has become a critical health problem which is affecting everyone in the community. Commonly, heavy consumption of these drugs has a huge impact on the social activities, thus causing drugged driving, child abuse, violence, crime, homelessness, work-related problems, and stress. Moreover, it also has effects on the unborn children if pregnant women consume them. There are numerous institutions that have been established to help people that have been overwhelmed by drug abuse.
Despite their benefits to human health, these drugs have been greatly opposed universally because people have overused them, thus posing social and health threats. Basically, these drugs have become common among the young people especially in colleges. There are various reasons that cause these young people to abuse these drugs. Young people may consume these drugs due to peer pressure, stress, hereditary issues, and others for pleasure. The problem is that these young people eventually get addicted to these drugs over a short period and eventually short-term and long-term effects begin to surface. The short-term effects begin to portray in the social behavior of the individual, while long-term effects may begin to show in the personality modifications of the individual. Tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana are drugs that can be positively and negatively used. Due to the uncontrolled consumption of these drugs, prohibition Act was introduced in many countries globally to evade numerous social and health problems.
