Is God Still Relevant Today?
Many people have wondered whether God is
relevant today. Additionally, there is a common belief that the whole idea of
God was created by the early man to seek for answers to events that occurred in
his life. The current technological
advancement has been seen to bring answers to what puzzled the early man. For this reason, it is fair
for those who think that God was created by the early man is no longer
relevant.
On the other hand, there are people throughout
the history who have written questioning the whole idea of the presences as
well as the relevance of God. Some literature such as, ‘Gay Science’ and ‘Zen
and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ have also written about this topic. Civil Society Groups such as TED have also
written to contribute to this topic using well refined information regarding
global statistics.
In ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’,
the Author(Pirsing) talks about the term quality and insist how a person’s
perception is important to improving his quality of life. He gives a good
example by using ability to master his old motorcycle and fix it well whenever a
need arises. He asserts that it is
important to achieve quality, a statement that is right. He points out the
flaws that exist in the current definition of the term ‘quality’ and suggest
that there must be an expectation when the term is applied.
This suggests that there is a higher
conviction that humans need to continuously improve. For instance, some parts
of the world say the US, Japan and Europe are well developed. Despite this,
their governments and the people are continuously seeking a higher degree of
refinement that is beyond early human comprehension. If God was only relevant to
give answers to the unfortunate events of the past, these people would now
relax as they are free of those challenges but instead, the concept of higher
power brings some quest for more refinement.
‘Gay
reasoning’ on the other hand has many poems that seems question to the general
norms system in Europe. Some of the poems suggest that the concept of love was
brought about by gay people. Another poem suggests that God is dead and likens
this to Buddha who died and people immortalized his burial place. Another poem
likens the continuous search of God by humans to a mad man’s pursuit of
murderess of God.
The author has given many suggestions that God
is not relevant but he has given no evidence that he is actually not. However, standards such as International
Human Rights Declaration among others go beyond every individual. Such
ideologies point to direct relevance of God in the current generation, as the governments are the standards of law
and order in the current generation, there is a standard of higher quality such
as human rights, international co-existences and other qualities or refinement
that today’s advanced world aspire to.
TED
on the other hand brings around a more empirical reasoning with data and
statistics. The movement contributes more
to the discourse by bringing facts concerning world civilization, health among
others. Consider a world where
societies are developed and have all their generation requires and still gets a
need to boost the living standards of the humanity by availing resources and
information to the less privileged. This
is the relevance of God in the modern society. The subject, character and all
representations of God represents the epitome of refinement for humanity which
all people aspire or should aspire to attain.
However, these ‘experts’ inspire more
thinking about the whole topic of God and his relevance. Whether the early mans
discovery or ‘creation of God’ is true or not, people today experience the
influence of God through the action of others. The Concept of God has inspired
many movements whose results has been the betterment of people’s lives still in
this technological age. An example is the Civil rights movements of the 1960s
in the US.
